My Future Goals
I have always found it fun to look forward into the future. After completing my Masters of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) degree I have every intention of continuing my education in both a formal and informal way. I have found several avenues that I would like to pursue.
I use Google programs almost every day. Through my courses at Michigan State University (MSU), my own children’s school and for personal use. Every so often I’ve seen the information for the Google Educator Certification pop up. I have become more intrigued over the years and am interested in working through their program to become officially certified through Level 1 and Level 2. I believe that this additional certification and knowledge will help me not only in my teaching career, but also in my ability to help my own family and give me the skills to move forward in my future career goals.
The state of Arizona recently approved an additional requirement for K-12 teachers to add to their teaching certificate. This addition is for a Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement. All teachers must complete the 45-hour program. In Arizona, school instruction is to occur in English, so after learning a SEI model of instruction, the goal is to rapidly teach English to English language learners. I plan to complete this course and earn my endorsement within the next calendar year.
My school is currently switching to a new live instruction platform (Newrow) and we have had countless professional development meetings on how to integrate technology into this new system. I have quickly learned that new technology doesn’t always have all the answers and that integration across websites and applications is very important. I also learned throughout my years in the MAET program through MSU, there are an abundance of different technology tools that I can use to help my students and colleagues through this transition into a new online system. I plan on integrating as many helpful technology tools into my school and classroom as necessary to improve the educational experience for my students.
Looking into my future as an educator, I see the doors wide open. I’m open to where my goals are taking me and I’m open to what the field of education will look like as a whole. I believe that my continued education through my MAET degree and beyond will provide me with the tools to tackle whatever comes my way.
